NAUGATUCK, CT — A woman got her hand stuck in a meat grinder Saturday afternoon in Naugatuck, which required taking her to different hospitals before the device could be removed.

Details about the extent of her injuries, and how the incident began, were not disclosed, but the New Haven Fire Department Rescue 1 officials called it a "successful operation."

The incident began at about 5:45 p.m. at an undisclosed location in Naugatuck, and the victim was initially transported to Waterbury Hospital with the machine still on her hand. However, a decision was quickly made to transport her to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment.

"Once the victim arrived at Yale and was evaluated by hospital staff they requested [Rescue 1] to evaluate the entrapment," officials wrote in a statement on Facebook. "Working closely with the Orthopaedic Surgeon, the decision was made for [Rescue 1] to assist in the [operating room]. A cutting operation plan was developed and 3 members from [Rescue 1] successfully removed the meat grinder."

Early decisions by the Naugatuck and Waterbury fire departments "helped in ensuring this was a successful operation."
